Music Note Flashcards Printable

July 19, 2019 by Melissa

Finding a good music note flashcards printable is valuable. Flashcards can be used during any type of music lessons whether the child is learning general music, piano, or any other instrument. They are a great way to incorporate games and review into lesson time.

Importance of Flashcards

Flashcards of any kind have been around for as long as I can remember and even longer. You can find flashcards in just about any store and many are used to reinforce math facts. But they don’t have to be just for math. Flashcards are an important tool for any subject, including music. So having a set of music note flashcards is a no brainer.

They have many benefits including engaging active recall. Active recall aids learning by allowing the individual to focus and think about what they are learning rather than letting the information go by passively. In music, there are many “codes” to learn. The codes are all the different notes on the staff, note types, markings, etc. Flashcards help reinforce those things so the student can learn to read music faster.

Another reason flashcards are important is they can be used in a variety of note naming games, keeping lessons fun. Keeping music lessons fun is an integral part of teaching successfully. Kids learn best when they are engaged. Using a music note flashcards printable is key.

Types of Music Flashcards

There are several different types of music flashcards. You can find music note flashcards, music symbol flashcards, music terms, composers and more. And if you can’t seem to find a good set of flashcards, make some.

Different Uses for Music Note Flashcards Printable

A music note flashcards printable can be used for many purposes. Once you download and print the file you can use the flashcards as review, for games, or even as a take-home practice tool.

Note Games to Play

I have several games that I love and my students love to play. They all use music note flashcards. My favorite game for lessons is musical Candyland. I have used it for several years in my studio and it is a go-to when I need to incorporate a little fun into things.

Another fun game you can use your set of music note flashcards printable for is Perfect Pitch Football Game. This is a fun football (soccer) based game inspired by the FIFA Women’s World Cup. It is simple and quick to play. You can set a time limit or play to a certain number of goals. This makes it ideal when there are only a couple of minutes left in a lesson. It’s a quick and easy way to throw in a little fun.

If you have a little more time to play memory is always a great option. Print out a couple of sets of music note cards or a set of notes on the staff and a set of just the names. Whichever way you play it it’s a great way to review note names.

Lesson Review

Reviewing notes as a little quiz before or after a lesson is another way to use your music note flashcards printable. Making this into a little competition is a way to get the kids to engage and try to do better.

When your child sits down to the lesson or just before they get up at the end, pull out the flashcards. See how many they can get right in one minute. Record it on their practice incentive sheet or notecard. Then the next time the flashcards are done in the one-minute activity see if they improve the number they get correct.

Set a goal that they can get prizes for getting a certain number correct. Or have a sticker chart for their practice goals and give them stickers there for doing better on their timed flashcards. They could even earn a piece of gum for beating their score. Sky’s the limit. Keep it fun and engaging for them.

Take-Home Tool

Whether you are teaching your own kids or have a studio with many students, music note flashcards are a great tool for the student to use between lessons. Use the music note flashcards printable and make a set for each student to keep with their books. Then encourage them to practice during the week.

In Conclusion

Whether you decide to use the free music note flashcards printable as just an aid during lessons, for practice between lessons, or part of a fun music game, they are worth it to have. They are a great teaching tool and study tool.

You can make your own or feel free to download the music note flashcards printable in this post.
